Broadcast network name (SSID)
You can choose to enable or disable the network name (SSID) broadcast. We highly recommend enabling this feature, although some would suggest disabling it in order to make your home network more secure. However, this can cause you some unwanted problems so we are going to keep this enabled.
Tx Power Level
By default, the Tx Power level is set to HIGH. This provides the greatest coverage and excellent signal strength. But the question is, do you really need to have an excellent WiFi signal outside your home? Therefore, we recommend changing it to MEDIUM, or even LOW if it’s enough for your home.
You can set this to Auto. This option will perform a quick scan of the channels and select the best one i.e. the one with least interference.
The next option you should check is the Security mode. The best would be to select WPA2-PSK (AES) (Recommended). This is practically the standard now and you can be sure that your WiFi password is very well protected.
This is the same as the Wi-Fi Security Key in the System Basic Setup page. You need to type your new password here.

Leaving the wireless network open represents a risk for your network because anyone can use it in many inappropriate ways. Therefore securing it with a strong and unique password is pretty important.
Also if your wireless network is already protected, you probably have heard the following question whenever someone comes to your place – What’s your WiFi password? If your answer is Yes, then it is good to change the WiFi password from time to time with a new one. Another great idea is to set up a separate Guest network for your guests and visitors. By doing this you will allow them to use your Internet connection, but they wont have access to your main network where they can actually access your private files or router settings. Think about this as another layer of security and do that if your wireless router supports creating Guest networks.
- When you change your WiFi password you will have to connect all your wireless devices again to the network using the new password.
- Always set up a strong and memorable password.
- The length of the WiFi password should be between 8 and 63 characters.
- Combine capital and small letters, numbers and special characters when you create your password.
- The WiFi password is case-sensitive, so be careful.
- Don’t share your WiFi password with anyone. For your friends you can set up a Guest network.
The wireless password is important for the overall security of your wireless network, and only you and your family or co-workers (if it’s a business network), should have access to it.
Anyone else that has access to your network can easily access your computer, personal files and information, and even block you out of the network or just mess your network settings so that it becomes unusable.
Although it may seem complicated at first, changing the Wifi settings is pretty simple and straightforward once you learn how to change your Wifi name and password. Make sure to save the new WiFi password for later, we are sure you will need it the first time a new guest comes to your place.
